7 Best Places to Visit for Halloween
Fright Dome, Las Vegas, NV
Topping off our list of best places to visit for Halloween in The Fright Dome is one of the longest running Halloween attractions in Las Vegas. There are many haunted houses, and the 5-acre town has no street lights to guide you along at night.
There are rides and live shows, and also plenty of clowns. Not good for the coulrophobic.
The spirit of the Jack-o’-lantern flows through this town, as you will see plenty of pumpkin heads strewn about the place. You will also see floating ones and even pumpkin heads on human bodies, walking about.
There are also live concerts in the park, and lots of donuts to make you a glutton. The town’s bed and breakfast is one of the scariest in the country, as rooms are plagued with surprises that will make your hair stand on end.
Lake Placid, NY
First place is Lake Placid, a small town with architecture still standing from the 1800s. This New York town has been named the best town for Halloween fun in 2013, as you can participate in different activities such as a 5K Zombie Walk, the Trek-n-Treat pub crawl and the Main Street Trick-or-Treat event for kids.
The 13th Gate, Baton Rouge, LA
This attraction is one of the best haunted houses in America. It was actually designed and constructed by award-winning set designers, sound and special effects artists.
There are 13 themed indoor and outdoor areas, filled with special makeup artists and 100 professional actors. The 13th Gate was the setting for the horror film, The Reaping.
Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum, Weston, WV
This 150 year old national historic landmark has been a favorite of ghost hunters for years. It is said that the spirits that roam the halls of the asylum belonged to the mentally insane patients who lived miserable lives within these walls.
The architecture itself is scary, and from outside on a cloudy day, it does look like you are on a set of a horror film. To most paranormal activity enthusiasts, the Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum falls in the top 5 scariest places in the US.
Waverly Hills Sanatorium, Louisville, KY
It seems that old mental and public health institutions are the best places to go to find tortured souls roaming through the halls. There’s just something about suffering in the here and now that makes souls want to take it out on us in the afterlife.
The Waverly Hills Sanatorium was finished in 1908, and it was a place where tuberculosis patients were quarantined. As you know, there was no cure at that time. So there will be plenty of ghosts to see.
Halloween Horror Nights, Universal Orlando, FL
Just like the 13th Gate haunted house in Louisiana, this place was designed and constructed by movie industry experts.
It was crafted so masterfully that when visitors walk in, it feels as if they are on the set of a scary movie. Staying true to the theme park, it has rides and attractions for those who dare to enter. It should be on the bucket list for everyone who loves a good scare.
